Setup Guide
Get Timer for Notion connected to your workspace in about five minutes.
Before you start
You'll need a Notion database with at least these properties:
- A Title property (every database has one by default)
- A Date property for the start time
- A second Date property for the end time
- A Status or Select property to mark entries as active or done
Optional but supported: a Select or Relation property for projects, and a Select or Multi-select property for tags.
Steps
-
Download and open Timer for Notion Get it from the Mac App Store. On first launch you'll see the Connect screen.
-
Authorize with Notion Click Authorize with Notion. Your browser will open Notion's permission page. Sign in if needed, choose the workspace you want to connect, and click Allow access. The browser will close and you'll be returned to the app automatically.
-
Select your database The app lists every database your workspace contains. Pick the one you use for time tracking.
-
Map your properties Tell the app which property in your database corresponds to each field:
- Title — the entry name (usually the default title column)
- Start date — when the timer started
- End date — when it stopped
- Status property — which property tracks active/done state
- Active status value — the option that means "in progress" (e.g. In Progress)
- Done status value — the option that means "complete" (e.g. Done)
-
Start tracking Type a task name, optionally choose a project and tag, then click Start. A colored dot and live elapsed time will appear in your menu bar. Click Stop when you're done — the entry is updated in Notion immediately.
Tips
Re-using recent entries
The history feed shows your 50 most recent entries. Click the restart icon on any entry to pre-fill the timer with the same title, project, and tag.
Editing entries
Click any field in the history feed to edit it inline. Changes are saved to Notion immediately.
Revoking access
You can disconnect the app at any time via the settings gear icon → Disconnect. To revoke Notion's authorization entirely, go to Notion → Settings → Connections and remove Timer for Notion.
